6 OFA Wrestlers Win Tourney Awards
SARANAC - Six OFA wrestlers won awards on Saturday at the Nathan Wood Memorial Tournament at Saranac Central led by a first place finish by junior Blake Hall at 170 pounds.
Hall went 4-0 on the day and Tristan Richardson went 3-1 taking second at 152 pounds. Mitchel McCarthy at 120 pounds and Robert Downey at 126 pounds also went 3-1 in placing third and Brayden Wall (1-3) at 113 pounds and Archie Green (1-2) at 220 pounds logged fourth place finishes for the Blue Devils who placed fifth in the team standings with 193 points.
Beaver River took the team title with 357 points followed by Warrensburg with 339, Saranac at 338, Watertown at 271, OFA at 193, Malone at 179 and Massena at 132.
Andrew Walseman of Beaver River at 126 pounds was honored as the Outstanding Lightweight Wrestler and Saranac's 160 pound Champion Bryce Smith was voted the Outstanding Heavyweight Wrestler and the recipient of the Nathan Memorial Award.
The Blue Devil matmen will make their home debut on Wednesday hosting Malone. Before the match the banners honoring OFA Section 10 Champions, 100-Win Club members and state placers will be dedicated to hang on the wall of the gym.
