Brown, Dean Named Bear Athletes Of Year

POTSDAM, N.Y.-Sophomore men's basketball player Isaiah Brown (Westside Queens, N.Y./NIA Prep) and junior women's soccer player Lexi Dean (Schenectady, N.Y./Mohonasen) have been named SUNY Potsdam's Athletes of the Year for the 2019-20 season by the Potsdam Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Brown's first year with the Bears has been a notable one. He was named a second team All-American by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, third team All-American and East Region Player of the Year by, SUNYAC Player of the Year and first team All-SUNYAC. The forward led the Bears and the SUNYAC in scoring this season with 24.2 points-per-game and was second on the team and fifth in the league with 8.6 rebounds-per-game. He was named the conference player of the week four times and the U.S. Basketball Writers Association's Men's Basketball National Player of the Week on Feb. 18. In a 76-62 victory at Oswego State on Feb. 15, Brown scored a career-high 42 points, one shy of the program's single-game record. He is Potsdam's fifth conference player of the year and ninth All-American. Dean had another outstanding showing on the pitch in the fall. She led the SUNYAC in scoring through the regular season with 14 goals and eight assists for 36 points in 16 games and was named the conference's Offensive Player of the Year. She also earned a spot on the All-SUNYAC first team and the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III Women's All-East third team. Dean was named the SUNYAC's Offensive Player of the Week three times during the fall. She was a critical part of the Potsdam's run to the playoffs. Dean scored seven goals and picked up an assist as the Bears went 3-0-1 in their last four regular season games to clinch. She scored two goals in a game five times this season. In three years, Dean has scored 29 goals and assisted on 16 others for 74 points, good for third place on the program's all-time scoring and goals lists. This is just the second year the honors have been given as part of the end of the season Maxcy Awards. Men's lacrosse player Josh Huiatt and softball standout and women's soccer All-American Brooke Falsion '19 were the first to receive the title last spring. Brown was the unanimous pick for the men and Dean edged out volleyball senior captain Natalie Magallon.
