Bulldogs Stay Unbeaten; Pirates Halt Wildcats

Heuvelton stayed unbeaten in the NAC West and Harrisville gained a major nonleague win handing Gouverneur its first loss of the Girls Basketball season in the first round of the Harrisville Tournament.

The Pirates prevailed 43-32 and meet LaFargeville today (Saturday) in the tournament's championship game at 7:30 p.m. Heuvelton plays Northern Adirondack at the Roos House Showcase at SUNY Canton today at 12:30 p.m.

Heuvelton 66 - Morristown 12: Bella Doyle (7 rebounds, 3 assists, 5 steals) tallied 22 points and Dakota Mouthorp tallied 15 as a productive scoring combination for the Bulldogs. Rayna Cameron (5 assists, 4 steals) netted 10 followed by Kaitlyn Sibley (10 rebounds) with six, Grace Mills (4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals) and Molly Williams (11 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals) with 4, Lara Martin with three and Dakota West with two.

"The girls played well after a long layoff. Morristown played tough right to the end," said Heuvelton Coach Rob Powers

"We got great production from the sophomores and the whole team. It was nice game to build on. Molly Williams was all over the floor, Kaitlyn Sibley had her best varsity game with 10 rebounds and Bella Doyle continues to emerge. Bella and Dakota Mouthorp made for an excellent finishing combination on fast breaks."

Morristown's scoring came on field goal by Emma Showers, Grace Wills, Carly Piercey, Rileigh Showers, Mia Johnson and Kaitlyn Ladlee.

Harrisville 43 - Gouverneur 32: Tori Moore scored 13 points leading a balanced offense and led a strong team rebounding effort by the Pirates.

"We played a 3-2 to guard their three-pointers held them without a three for three quarter where we built big lead. Tori Moore was all over the boards and we held them to one shot most of the time," said Harrisville Coach Steve Roberts.

Harlee Moore and Hannah LaPlatney scored 10 points and Chloe Benson netted seven. Raelin Burns led Gouverneur with 11 points and Shacoria Jackson and Cierra Besaw followed with eight and five.

Salmon River 31 - P-H 26: Kamea Thomas delivered 18 points, 15 rebounds and seven steals and Lindsay Martin netted four points with seven steals and seven rebounds to lead Salmon River to a first round win in the St. Regis Falls Tournament. Ioseriio Tabor provided eight steals and six rebounds.

"We did a nice job tonight coming off  a loss to Gouverneur last night with a great defensive effort.  The offense will come as long as we continue to clamp down our defense," said Salmon River Coach Shawn Martin.

In the other first round game St. Regis Falls downed Tupper Lake 46-19.
