Canton Advances To A Finals; Potsdam Wins B Title

Canton won a rematch of last year's championship game on Saturday to advance into the Class A Championship game of the Section 10 Football Tournament. The second seeded Golden Bears (3-5) outscored Massena (1-7) 26-21 to move on to face top seeded Watertown High for the title.

Zach VanBrocklin (21-133) provided a workhorse rushing outing for the Bears and scored on runs of eight and five yards in the second period and tallied what proved to be the winning touchdown in the third quarter. He also added a two-point conversion run.

Hunter Blauvelt caught a 28-yard touchdown pass from Adam Calton for Canton which produced four turnovers on defense. Ashton Cloce and Connor House intercepted passes and VanBrocklin and Connor Ramsey recovered fumbles.

Massena produced three rushing touchdowns: Dominic Monacelli on two-run run in the first quarter, Zach Goolden on a five-yard in the second quarter and Nathan Eastman on a 20-yard run in the third quarter.

Mickey Kuhn booted a PAT and Goolden threw a two-point conversion pass to Tom Perry.

POTSDAM REPEATS

The 6-2 Sandstoners repeated the Class B title with a 39-6 win over Malone (0-8) on Friday and scored 20 points in the first quarter where Will Varney, Zach Kirka and Bobby Voss delivered touchdown runs of 15, four and 10 yards.

Varney gained 68 yards and went over the 1000 yard mark for a third straight season. Voss (3-63) also caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from Kirka who completed six of nine passes for 107 yards and ran six times for 58 yards. Nolan Anderson added a 10 run scoring run for the Stoners who move on to the New York State Tournament.

Tori Preve scored Malone's touchdown on a 48-yard run and gained 91 yards on six carries, Huskie quarterback Payton Poirier completed 10 of 18 passes for 82 yards.
