Clarkson Earns Bye In 6-Team ECAC Playoffs

ECAC Hockey announced tonight changes to its men's quarterfinals pairings, to be held March 13-15. The changes follow decisions by two of its members, Harvard University and Yale University, to withdraw from post-season competition in light of their respective University's decisions regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19). The elimination of Harvard and Yale from competition results in re-seeding of the championship. As the number two seed,  Clarkson has been awarded a quarterfinal-round bye in the revamped six-team ECAC Hockey postseason. With two of the top eight remaining teams pulling out, the ECAC reseeded the tournament to keep the integrity of the bracket. Based on regular season results Cornell and Clarkson will now automatically advance to the semifinal round on Friday, March 20 at the 1980 Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid. The Golden Knights were to host Colgate this weekend at Cheel Arena in a best-of-three league quarterfinal series. The remaining quarterfinal series this weekend will be played on the following campus sites: The new conference quarterfinal series matchups are No. 11 Princeton at No. 3 Quinnipiac in Hamden, CT, and No. 8 Colgate at No. 4 Rensselaer in Troy, NY. The teams will play a best-of-three series with the winners advancing to Lake Placid for semifinal round games against Cornell and Clarkson. The league and its member institutions are continuing to monitor the coronavirus situation. For up-to-date information on the upcoming championship, visit
