Clarkson Ladies Earn Statement Win Over Colgate

Clarkson had a statement win in the final regular season showdown between teams that have faced each other 10 times this season. 5 goals from familiar sources and solid net play from Jr. Marie-Pier Coulombe gave Clarkson the 5-2 victory.

Clarkson got the lead in the first, as Caitrin Lonergan opened the scoring at 14:40 of the period. She was sprung on a break away as Gabrielle David knocked the puck into open ice.

Clarkson took a 2-0 lead 43 seconds into the second period, when Brooke McQuigge scored her 7th of the year from Elizabeth Giguere and Caitrin Lonergan. Colgate struck on the power play to make it 2-1. Clarkson extended their lead by two again, when Giguere scored unassisted at 11:40.

The third period saw the Knights blow the game open when Gabrielle David scored at 13:54 off of a faceoff. With just under 3 minutes to play Colgate got the extra attacker on, but at 17:24 Elizabeth Giguere beat 3 Raiders down the ice after a loose puck and was able to hit the open net to make it 5-2 and out the game out of reach.

Coulombe finished with 34 saves for her fist game back after 2 weeks off.

Clarkson was 1 for 3 on the power play, while Colgate struck twice on five chances with the advantage.

Next up, Clarkson will face St. Lawrence on Wednesday at 7:00 pm
