Coast Guard Auxiliary Offers On-Line Boater Safety Course
OGDENSBURG, NY — The Ogdensburg United States Coast Guard Auxiliary is pleased to announce you can take your boating safety course online with live instructors from the Coast Guard Auxiliary in the comfort of your own home. Students must register before September 30thfor our October 5-8 class by calling 315-605-8041 or email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Cathy Trenton, Commander of the Ogdensburg Flotilla says, “this is a great opportunity to get your boating safety certificate without having to drive a great distance to attend classes. No matter where you live if you have a computer or phone with a camera and microphone you can complete this online course by attending just four, two-hour online classes”.
Improve your chances of having a safe, accident free outing on the water. Learn how to operate your boat safely, the rules of the road, how to handle required safety equipment and emergencies on the water and much more. New York State will require all power boat operators, (who must be a minimum of 10 years of age) to complete a boating safety course per the following schedule. All personal watercraft (jet ski) operators regardless of age and a minimum of 14 years of age must complete a boating safety course.
Born after Jan. 1, 1993 you will need a boating safety certificate in 2020. Born after Jan. 1, 1988 you will need a boating safety certificate in 2022. Born after Jan. 1, 1983 you will need a boating safety certificate in 2023. Born after Jan. 1, 1978 you will need a boating safety certificate in 2024.
Jan. 1, 2025, all motorized vessels operators need a boating safety certificate regardless of your age.
The “About Boating Safely” certificate and card never expires, and is easily replaced if lost or damaged by contacting the Ogdensburg Auxiliary. This training is valid in all fifty states. Cost of attending this online training is $35.00 per person with family rates available. Course study materials will be mailed to you prior to the start of the course.
