Coast Guard Rallies Past Roos In Baseball

FORT MYERS FLA. – Chris McVannan and Cameron Cartier drove in two runs each as the Roos jumped out to an early lead but Coast Guard Academy scored 11 runs over the final three innings to earn a 14-6 victory on Tuesday.

SUNY Canton plated to runs in the opening inning on a Zach Miner RBI double to left field that scored Dylon Bougor and a Cameron Cartier sac fly to center that plated Zach Bates.After Coast Guard plated one in the bottom of the first Cartier brought home Bougor on another sacrifice fly in the third.

The Bears tallied a pair of runs in the fifth to tie the game at 3-3 before adding 11 runs over the final three frames.

The Roos plated three runs in the sixth. Collin Trathen brought in Cartier when he reached on an error and McVannan laced a 2 RBI base hit to center to score Danny Vargas and Trathen.Anthony Tur took the no-decision for the Roos throwing five innings surrendering three earned runs on four hits and six walks with two strike outs.

Danny Lucey took the loss allowing four earned runs in two-thirds of an inning.Michael Gilmore was credited with the win after throwing 2.1 innings in relief without allowing a run on one hit and a strike out.

WHAT'S NEXT The Roos are off on Wednesday before they take on Defiance College for a Thursday doubleheader beginning at 9 a.m.
