Complete Boater Safety Course Before Memorial Day
OGDENSBURG, NY - Boaters can now complete their boating safety course in time for the Memorial Day holiday weekend. “Boat America” will be presented, virtually, online, by the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary May 17th – May 20th from 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM.
Flotilla Commander Cathy Trenton says, “this is a great opportunity to get your boating safety certificate without having to drive a great distance to attend classes. No matter where you live, anyone with a computer or cell phone with a camera and microphone can complete
this online course by attending just four, two-hour online sessions”.
New York State requires all power boat operators, who must be 10 years or older, born after 1/1/1988 to complete a boating safety course before 2022; born after 1/1/1983 before 2023; born after 1/1/1978 before 2024. All power boat operators, regardless of age, must complete a boating safety course before 2025. All personal watercraft (jet ski) operators, who must be 14 years or older, must also complete a boating safety course. “Boat America”, an eight-hour boating safety course, complies with this regulation.
The certified instructors, who are Coast Guard Auxiliarists with years of experience as boaters on local waters, will teach boating safety and interact with students. Questions are answered before, during and after class.
Students will be mailed the course textbook and the Federal and State rulebooks to keep as references. The certificate and card never expire and will be awarded after successfully completing the final exam. It can be replaced free of charge if lost or damaged. Tuition is $35 per person. There are family rates available.
Preregistration is required and will be accepted until May 12th. You must attend all four sessions.
