Dean, LaBarge Earn Top Lady Bears' Soccer Awards

POTSDAM, N.Y.-Junior midfielder Lexi Dean (Schenectady, N.Y./Mohonasen) and senior defender Lexie LaBarge (Champion, N.Y./Copenhagen) have claimed the SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team awards for its 2019 season. Dean is the program's Most Valuable Player and LaBarge is the Coaches Award winner. Dean had the finest of her three collegiate seasons in the fall. She led the SUNYAC in scoring through the regular season with 14 goals and eight assists for 36 points in 16 games and was named the conference's Offensive Player of the Year. She also earned a spot on the All-SUNYAC first team and the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III Women's All-East third team. Dean was named the SUNYAC's Offensive Player of the Week three times during the fall. She was a critical part of the Potsdam's run to the playoffs. Dean scored seven goals and picked up an assist as the Bears went 3-0-1 in their last four regular season games to clinch. She scored two goals in a game five times this season. In three years, Dean has scored 29 goals and assisted on 16 others for 74 points, good for third place on the program's all-time scoring and goals lists. LaBarge joined the Bears in the fall of 2018 and was part of the program's record setting defense that allowed just 0.83 goals-per-game. In two seasons in Potsdam, she played in 12 contests with one start. This semester the graphic design and new media major has interned for the athletic communications office. LaBarge has produced numerous publications and graphics for the athletic department's website, social media accounts and individual teams.

Potsdam finished the 2019 season with an 8-9-1 overall record and a 4-4-1 mark in the SUNYAC. The Bears qualified for the conference's postseason tournament for the third year in a row. They open the 2020 campaign at St. Lawrence University on Sept. 1.
