Devils Cap 14-0 Central Title; Face Harrisville Monday

GOUVERNEUR - OFA's eighth straight NAC Central Division Championship became a perfect 14-0 campaign on Wednesday in an 89-40 win at Gouverneur.

A win where the Devils' set the tempo which eventually produced a 20-6 run away from a 13-10 first quarter lead and a 54-point second half.

Now 15-4 OFA will complete regular season play with a trip to Harrisville on Monday for a meeting of the Central and West Division Champions. The Pirates can make it three straight perfect NAC West seasons with a win over a tough Heuvelton team on Friday.

"We had a very sluggish start but we played much better in the second half. Nice test for us coming up on Monday at Harrisville and then the second season starts," said OFA Coach Mark Henry.

"I like the pace we have been playing at lately. We just need to continue to get better every day."

Jackson Jones continued to produce interior double-doubles with 29 points and 12 rebounds and guard MeSean Johnson approached a triple double with 23 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists and three steals. Dave Vernsey delivered 12 points and seven rebounds off the bench and Brogan LaRose continued his steady production with seven points and four rebounds.

Rounding contributions from up and down the lineup were: Connor Griffith with one point and four assists, Trent Sargent with two points, four rebounds and three assists, Logan Horton with five points, Harry Powers with five points and Eli Bullock with two points.

A young Gouverneur (3-11, 15-4) team completed a division season steady improvement and was led by nine points from Caden Storie and seven points from Carter Simmons. Sully Rumble and Connor Wood. Brock Cox tallied five points, Jarrett LeClair added four and Cayden Stowell chipped in with one.


In other Central Division action Payton Poirier joined the Section 10 1000-Point Club as Malone downed St. Lawrence Central 57-50.
