Ducks Hand Red Wings, Howard First Loss

DETROIT --Nick Ritchie scored the tie-breaking goal midway through the third period, and Anaheim beat the Detroit Red Wings 3-1 on Tuesday night to note a 3-0 start and drop the Red Wings to 2-1..

John Gibson, who has allowed one goal in each of the three games stopped 31 shots for the Ducks and Ogdensburg's Jimmy Howard handled 26 shots for Detroit.

A goal by the Red Wings' Dylan Larkin 8:06 into the third period was waived off because it was ruled offside,s and Ritchie scored on a rebound 1:04 later to give the Ducks a 2-1 lead. Silfverberg mades it 3-1, scoring 47 seconds after that.

Filip Hronek scored for Detroit.

"It's one of those things. It's a game of momentum and a game of inches and it just didn't go our way tonight," Howard said to the press afterwards..

The Red Wings return to action tonight against Montreal.
