ECAC Hockey Championships Scheduled
ALBANY, N.Y. — ECAC Hockey has announced the dates and format of the 2021 men's and women's league championships. All four competing institutions will compete in a single-elimination championship over the course of one championship weekend. Information on seeding and scenarios are also below.
2021 Women's Championship
The two women's semifinal matchups will be played on Friday, March 5, with sites and times yet to be determined. The No. 4 seed will travel to No. 1, and No. 3 will travel to No. 2 for the right to compete in the championship game on Sunday, March 7 at the site of the highest remaining seed.
Seeding will be finalized after this weekend, and will be determined by percentage of available points, as not all teams have competed in the same amount of league games. Colgate, Clarkson, and St. Lawrence are currently fighting for the regular-season trophy, but all four programs still have the opportunity to host semifinal games.
The Golden Knights control their own destiny, as three Clarkson regulation wins this weekend would clinch them the regular-season title. Two regulation wins for Colgate paired with any dropped points for Clarkson would give the title, and No. 1 seed to the Raiders. St. Lawrence could take the title with a nine point weekend, and one or less points by Colgate. More scenarios will be made available throughout the weekend.
2021 Men's Championship
The men's championship will follow the same format as the women, with semifinals being conducted on Thursday, March 18 before a championship game on Saturday, March 20.
At this point, the four competing teams are all scheduled to complete their 18-game conference schedules. Quinnipiac (28 points) will have a chance to wrap up the regular-season title with a pair of wins this weekend and some help.
