Elks Golfers Can't Capitalize On "Greener" Park Course
After a much-needed day of rain on Tuesday, the Elks' League had a near perfect day to play its round on Wednesday at the St. Lawrence State Park. With the greens holding, and the fairways returning to more green than brown, the players were able to fire at the pins.
Too bad no one took advantage of the conditions!
The team of Travis/Jamie continue to hold on to 1st place with 64.5 points, even after a valiant effort by Coz/Tom to make a dent in their lead. Ben/Bob and Ralph/Carl share second with 62.5 points. Mel/Butch, after taking 7.5 points this week, vaulted from 9th to 4th, with 62 points. Must be that magic elixir that Mel carries, that gave them a boost.
The only player to break 40 was a much-heralded A player, of local renown, Tom Cobb subbing for the almost as well-known Tim “Fox” Irvine. Rumor that he finally played from the white tees is still being confirmed. Wally Boyer had the only skin out for the week. Dead eye Paul Pirie was closest to the pin on number 9.
In looking at some of the matches, it appears Scott/Dave were outplayed by Bob/Merrill this week. I guess Millsy found it hard to keep up his scoring pace from last week. Apparently, the older guys had their number this week.
Hope to have some idea for year-end get together, after this week’s play.
The league will play from the back tees this Wednesday, 8/12.
