Farrell Wins Division Title At Ironman Arizona

Ogdensburg native Amy Farrell encountered some disappointing finishes running races in Arizona. On Saturday she made a return to Tempe, Arizona, where she once did winter training as a member of the St. Lawrence University Women's Track-Field team, and gained the Women's 40-44 age group championship.

Farrell, who teaches physical education and coaches cross country and track-field at Tupper Lake Central, recorded a time of 9:47:25 and led a 1-2-3 USA finish in the age group. She logged a 1:09:14 2.4 mile swim, a 5:00.1 112 mile bike time and ran her 26.2 mile marathon in 23:29.07. Second and third place finish in the division went to Stephanie Chevrier of Scottsdale, Arizona in 9:47:25.0 and Shannon Floree of Lexington, Kentucky in 10:02.44.

Farrell also placed second overall among the amateur female competitors and was the 10th female finisher. Eight of the first 10 female finishers were professionals led by Sara Crowley in 8:49.37.

The first amateur female finisher was Nicole Walker who led the 30-34 age group in 9:30.05 and took eighth overall.

"I have a long history of running in Arizona, the @saintsxctf track team did spring training here when I was in college (I usually had disappointing races) and in 2008 I was part of a group of women who were brought out to Rock n Roll Arizona Marathon as a last chance to hit the Olympic Trials time (I missed my a minute). Those disappointments led me to triathlon and I am so grateful for that," said Amy Farrell on her facebook page.

"I am grateful for my body for holding up so I could leave Arizona with a race I am proud of. Thank you to my people, for getting me here and taking great care of me! Thank you to my @coeursports teammates for keeping me updated and helping me keep it together, Coachulio and @highperformancetraining because without you I’d be chasing my tail, my @hokaoneone boys for all their help, @greyghostbicycles for the speedy bikes @ntrecovery for helping this PE teacher feel like she has fresh legs daily, @rokatriathlon for keeping me afloat and the sun out of my eyes, and @powersurge3 for the very best but butters that even make my pancakes taste good! It surely takes a village and I appreciate you all so much! #10daysofgratitude #gratefulathlete #prat42 #ironmom #rubysmom #mypeoplearethebestones
