Fenlong Earns Sixth Save In IS's Regular Season Finale

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Indiana State baseball battled adversity in the series finale with Evansville Saturday afternoon at Braun Stadium. The Sycamores rallied back from an eight-run deficit to win 13-10 and secure the No. 2 seed at the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.

Gouverneur's Connor Fenlong entered with a runner on in the bottom half of the sixth to secure his sixth save of the season. Fenlong finished the regular season with a 4-1 record to go along with six saves and crafted a 1.53 ERA with 27 strikeouts against 10 walks in 17 innings. He limited opponents to a .218 batting average.

Max Wright was dominant at the plate, finishing 3-for-5 with three runs scored, six RBIs to go along with a walk.

The senior hit two home runs in the game to help the Sycamores (27-17, 14-10 MVC) earn the series split with the Aces. Jordan Schaffer finished 3-for-6 at the plate with two runs scored while Miguel Rivera and Josue Urdaneta tallied two hits each. Tyler Grauer (3-2) saved his best relief appearance of the season for last as the left-hander pitched 4.1 innings and allowed just two base hits while striking out three Purple Aces. At one point, Grauer retired 10-straight batters as he claimed his third win of the season. Overall, ISU earned 11 free bases after drawing nine walks and being hit-by-pitch two times. The Sycamores continued to struggle with runners on, stranding 10 runners compared to three for the Aces. UP NEXT The Sycamores will travel to Itchy Jones Stadium in Carbondale, Ill. for the 2021 Missouri Valley Conference Tournament hosted by Southern Illinois University.
