Gouverneur, C-P Girls Post Wins

It was out of one season and into another for Gouverneur Girls Basketball Coach Sean Devlin.

Just two days after coaching the Wildcats' Football team in New York State Class C Championship game at the Syracuse Carrier Dome, Devlin was on the court at Gouverneur Central coaching his first game as the school's Girls Varsity Basketball Coach.

The result predictable as the Wildcats used strong defense to down St. Lawrence Central 48-22 in the NAC Central Division opener for both teams. In an NAC interdivisional game Colton-Pierrepont bested Salmon River 50-28 with some outstanding defense of its own.

Gouveneur 48-22: Laney Smith (12 points), Raelin Burns (3 points), Shacoria Jackson (14 points) and Makayla Douglass (2 points) all grabbed seven rebounds for the Wildcats.

Other scoring came from: Torrie Salisbury (2), Kathyrn Gibson (4), Cierra Besaw (5) and Shandel Sweet (6).

"We are not real big and we are very young. We have only one Senior, plus four Juniors and six Sophomores playing varsity basketball. We do not have a lot experience but this is a very hard working group of girls. We have a lot of fun and I am glad that I have the opportunity to take over this program," said Coach Devlin.

" I am looking forward to watch this season has in store for us."

Marissa MacLean tallied nine points and Maggie Yandoh scored six to lead SLC. Brooke Rabada added four points.

C-P 50 - Salmon River 28: Emma Clemmo scored eight of her 16 points in the first quarter, Izzy Vaccaro buried three 3s scoring 11 points and Callie Richards netted nine points to lead the Colts. Other scoring came from Alexis Cuthbert (2), Amber Erwin (2), Jaeleigh Jacot (4) and Mattilyn Lovely (2).

"We did a lot of good things tonight and scored a lot of points in transition," said C-P Coach Bill Reed. "But we have a lot of things to work on."

Lindsay Martin scored 12 points for Salmon River and Kamea Thompson tallied six.

In one other girls basketball game Norwood-Norfolk downed Parishville-Hopkinton 43-36.

In one boys basketball game Salmon River downed St. Regis Falls 61-39.

In Girls Hockey action Alexandria Bay downed Massena 2-1.
