Gouverneur, Canton Win NAC Football Openers

GOUVERNEUR - Quarterback Caleb Farr rushed for 136 yards on 18 carries and scored on runs of five, one, one and 43 yards as Gouverneur extended its Northern Conference Football winning streak into a fourth season on Saturday with a 66-22 win over Watertown High on Saturday. Farr also completed three of four passes for 91 yards with a 41 yard touchdown pass to Cayden Stowell

Watertown, making its return to the NAC, showed a productive passing attack as quarterback Deante Hall completed 12 of 15 passes for 193 yards with touchdown passes to Jude Converse and Johnny Turner. Hall also rushed for 53 yards with a 10-yard scoring run.

Other Gouverneur scores came from Kyle Savage on a 10-yard run and Joe Cummings on an 18-yard run.

Canton 21 - Malone 6: Heuvelton Central student Adam Calton threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Ashton Cloce in the third quarter to break a 0-0 halftime and tie Canton went to win a duel of second half scoring. Hunter Blauvelt and Connor Ramsey (8-78) ran for fourth quarter scores as the Bears prevailed with an offense by committee.

Calton completed eight of 17 passes for 61 yards and the Bear defense contributed interceptions by Bryce Lake and Trey Bessette.

Payton Poirier produced Malone's lone points of the day with a one-yard run.
