Gouverneur Defends Central Lead; Raiders Check SR
Gouverneur continued as the team to catch in NAC Central Division Baseball while hitters in the division continued to have very little luck catching up to the fastball of David Dubray in Friday's action.
Gouverneur (5-1) downed Malone 14-5 while Dubray struck out nine as Massena (7-2) downed Salmon River (4-2) 11-1. NAC East action saw Norwood-Norfolk shade Tupper Lake 7-6 and Parishville-Hopkinton sweep Chateaugay 18-0, 13-4.
Gouverneur 14 - Malone 5: The Wildcats scored nine runs in the first two innings and six different players drove in runs led by Reed who lined three singles for four RBIs.
Kyle Gaumes pitched four innings to get the win and freshman Holden Stowell supplied three scoreless innings for a save in a combined five hitter.
"Kyle Gaumes struggled a little with his command but he grinded out four tough innings. Freshman Holden Stowell was very good pitching three scoreless innings," said Gouverneur Coach John Free.
"We hit the ball well again tonight and made plays when we had to. Next week is a big week for us with three games in five days finishing with Salmon River."
Gaumes lined three singles for one RBI and scored three times along with Connor Wood who singled. Nolan Reed used three singles to collect four RBIs, Jared Wilson drove in two runs with a double and a single, Cayden Storie also doubled and singled, Gabe Wainwright also doubled and Holden Stowell drove in two runs with a single and a sacrifice fly. Nolan Reynolds singled twice for the Wildcats.
Brock Spaulding singled twice for Malone and Logan Spaulding, Josh Perry and Eli Race all singled.
Massena 11 - SR 1: David Dubray singled twice to complement his pitching and Zack Monacelli also singled twice. Luke Miller singled and tripled for Salmon River.
N-N 7 - Tupper Lake 6: Michael Richards doubled in the eighth inning to drive in Caden St. Andrews with the winning run as the Flyers edged Tupper Lake (4-4) in an East Division game in Norwood.
Richards finished with three hits for the Flyers (5-3, 5-2). Thomas Hopsicker and Brendan Bombard each picked up two hits for the Flyers.
P-H 18, 13 - Chateaugay 0-4: Jon Snell had three hits and Lawson Snell had two hits to lead the Panthers in the first game where Conor Taillon twirled a two hitter.
In the second game Kade Hayes, Cody Yette and Conner Hendershot all scored twice for the Panthers. Ethen Green had two hits and Nolan Boyer singled for Chateaugay.
