Gouverneur's Baer Win State Wrestling Title at 138

Gouverneur's select circle of state wrestling champions welcomed another member on Saturday as sophomore Carter Baer claimed the 2020 138-pound weight class title at the Times Union Center in Albany on Saturday..
Baer earned the top spot on the podium with a 6-4 decision over senior Brady Worthing of Section 4's Tioga who came into the title match with a 48-1 record.
Baer went 3-0 on the day to raise his season record to 45-3. He defeated Kaleb Burgess of Palmyra-Macedon in the semi-finals and pinned Edwin Kent of the Eagle Academy in his first match.
Three other Wildcats earned podium spots with seventh place finishes secured by: Joe Cummings at 152, Tyler Tupper at 170 pounds and Jacob Shippee at 182 pounds.
The other Section 10 Division II champions all suffered losses in their first two matches.
Gouverneur placed 10th in the team scoring standings.
