Gouverneur Sweeps Meet At M-W; Jackets Split
The Gouverneur Boys and Girls both swept host Madrid-Waddington and Clifton-Fine In NAC Track-Field action on Tuesday.
Gouverneur bested M-W 90-43 and C-F 109-10 in the Girls Meet where M-W downed C-F 67-8. In the Boys Meet Gouverneur gained wins of 90-43 and 109-16 against M-W and C-F and M-W bested C-F 67-8.
A 1-2-3 finish by Rikki Griffith 5:52.40, Ella Impaglia and Abigail Bowman provided Gouverneur with a momentum burst in the 1500 runs and the Wildcats notched a distance sweep with Impaglia in the 3000 meters and Randi Griffith in the 800 meters.
The Wildcats' distance crew also combined the win the 4x400 and 4,800 meters and offset a strong showing by M-W sprints led by Hailee Blair who led the 100 dash and the long jump and combined with Lindsey Burns, Hailey Marcellus and Chloe Tiernan for a first place in the 4x100 relay.
Marcellus also led the 100 hurdles and Maddie Armstrong and Kaitlin Putman delivered a 1-2 in the 400 run. Randi Griffin earned Gouverneur a first in the 400 hurdles and Meadow Greenhill led the 200 dash.
M-W finished strong in the field with firsts from Ella Kitsman in the high jump, Lindsey Burns in the triple jump, Kaitlyn Putman in the discus and Pheobe Zagrobleny in the shot put.
In other Girls Meets Massena downed Salmon River 63-41 and Norwood-Norfolk bested Malone 73-65.
Gouverneur used a series of 1-2-3 finishes to pull away from M-W and C-F starting with a Thomas Vincent, Noel LaPierre and Jon Baez in the 100 meter dash. Vincent also led the high jump while LaPierre paced the 200 and Baez won the triple jump.
The Wildcats also featured a 1600-3200 distance double by Cole Siebels, a 110-400 hurdles sweep by Gordon Martin and a first place in the 800 by Ethan Fitzgerald.
Sage Cordwell paced the shot put and discus throw for M-W, Kyle Stoner led the long jumnp and Thomas Cafarella, Graham Hill, Stoner and Joey White won the 4x400 relay.
Gouverneur led the 4x100 and 4x800 relay and Aiden Benzel paced the 400 run for C-F. In other Boys Meets Massena dropped Salmon River 82-48 and Malone defeated Norwood-Norfolk 73-59
