H-D Girls Open Season Taking Thriller At Harrisville
HARRISVILLE - One the strengths that Hermon-DeKalb Coach Bob Bice saw in his team in the preseason was the potential to be poised under pressure because of the close game experience of his veterans and newcomers from the JV level.
The Green Demons showed that poise on Thursday in the season opener turning back host Harrisville 52-50 to give Coach Bice a well-earned win in his first game at the varsity helm.
Senior guard Hillary Jones sparked the Demons hitting three 3-pointers while scoring 16 of her game-high 23 points in the second half. Hannah Gollinger buried two 3s scoring nine points for the Demons who turned back the Pirates in the closing seconds.
Vital complementary scoring came from: Audri Tehonica with six, Bri Grant with three, Rylie Hale with five, Emery McQuade with four and Emma Friot with four.
Torie Moore continued as the Harrisville floor leader scoring 21 points and Meghan Kackison scored nine of her 14 points in the fourth quarter. Evelyn Winters netted 11 and Rynne Wohnsiedler added four.
"It was a back and fourth game and we had our chance at the end but we didn't make that last short. I was proud of my team and congratulations to Hermon-DeKalb on the win," said Harrisville Coach Steve Roberts.
