H-D Girls, Boys Feel Ready For Improved Season

BY DAVE SHEA

The Hermon-DeKalb Girls and Boys Soccer teams enjoyed similar experiences in competitive Northern Conference West seasons last fall.

The Lady Demons went 5-6-1 in the division and the Boys went 6-6 matching third place finishes their respective divisions which were both led by highly ranked undefeated champions. The Hammond Girls reached the New York State semi-finals before losing to Avoca 3-0 while the Lisbon Boys made a strong bid for the Final Four before losing Chazy 1-0 in the regional finals.

The H-D squads hope share experience of attaining winning records in the COVID-19 condensed seasons which begin on Saturday against Harrisville (Girls Home, Boys Away).

GIRLS OUTLOOK

Erin Green starts her second season optimistic that her team can better last year's record with the combination of several returning players and some talented first year players.

"We have seven seniors this year, six returning from last year. We enter this road hopefully back to normality with lots of talent and excitement to be back on the field training in a sport we love. Expectations for the season are of course to improve upon our record from last year if we are fortunate enough to get the full season in," said Coach Green.

"Our team is packed with potential especially with our returning players and some new sophomores added to the roster. We can get the ball up the field, hold possession while we see passing lanes, and find the back of the net. It should be a fun team to watch grow through the season. Our six returning seniors all provide their own leadership qualities that I am confident will lead us to best season yet."
