H-D Notes 2-0 Start For NAC West Opener
Hermon-DeKalb lifted its nonleague record to 2-0 downing Parishville-Hopkinton 70-36 in preparation for its NAC West Basketball opener on Tuesday. The Green Demons begin divisional play on Monday against Hermon-DeKalb.
In girls basketball Gouverneur took a 59-22 nonleague win over Lisbon and Massena defeated Edwards-Knox 53-41.
H-D 70 - P-H 36: The Green Demons jumped out to a 20-8 lead and were led by Jaydian Carrow who tallied 22 points with eight rebounds and Zach Denesha who scored 16 points. Jacob Spencer and Adam Lynch tallied nine points followed by Aric Bogart with six and Thorne VanBrocklin with two.
Peyton Hamilton contributed three steals and three rebounds to the victory.
"We received solid effort from each individual. All players saw floor time and our press was effective enough to create turnovers in the first half," said H-D Coach Dylan Klock.
Burt Chevier delivered 10 points and eight rebounds for P-H (0-1) and Harrison Snell netted eight points with five rebounds. Lawson Snell and Tanner Rosenbarker each added two points.
"We had our first game tonight vs. Hermon DeKalb. Tough Loss... but we gained a lot. I have probably the best group of boys any coach can ask for. They work so hard and they will gain from this. Good Job Boys! Friday is another tough match up against a very good program at Heuvelton," said P-H first year coach Stephen LaRose in a facebook post.
Gouverneur 59 - Lisbon 22: Laney Smith buried three 3-pointers scoring 13 of her 17 points in the first quarter as the Wildcats (2-0) opened their season with two wins in two days. Ciera Besaw tallied 12 points in the win and Torie Salisbury, Shantell Sweat and Kaitlyn Gibson scored five points apiece and Ellen Baer and Raelin Burns added four.
Mikayla Douglass grabbed seven rebounds and scored two points along Shacoria Jackson.
Alexa McKee scored 11 points for Lisbon, Brandi Meashaw and Karli Thompson netted four and Abby Flack added three.
Massena 53 - E-K 41: The Raiders jumped out to a 36-20 halftime lead with a 17-5 second quarter run and were led by Tori Jacobs with 15 points, Aryssa Hopps with nine and Shaylena Mandigo and Laylah Bingham with seven points apiece. Lucy Frary scored a game-high 20 points for E-K and Alicia Matthews and Abby Hart added eight and seven.

In other Girls Basketball non league action Saranac Lake downed St. Regis Falls 37-33.
In nonleague Boys Hockey Plattsburgh bested Malone 5-2 and in Girls Hockey Saranac Central blanked Malone 4-0.
