Hammond Downs Bulldogs; MCS Gears For West Leaders

HAMMOND - Hammond, Morristown and Harrisville all recorded high-scoring victories in wet and windy conditions in NAC West Boys Soccer action.

Hammond turned back Heuvelton 3-2, Morristown downed Gouverneur 7-1 and Harrisville blanked Hermon-DeKalb 4-0.

IN NAC East action Brushton-Moira downed St. Regis Falls 6-1 and St. Lawrence Central and Chateaugay played to a 0-0 tie.

Hammond 3 - Heuvelton 2: Randy Durham scored a game-winner off a pretty run-and-dish play from Nate Jewett with 8;07 to play as Hammond prevailed and overcame 24 saves from Heuvelton goaltender Jed Crayford.

Crayford made a series of outstanding saves in the first half protect a 1-0 Bulldog lead created when Braeden Free scored from Jordan Sawyer 3:42 into the game.

"There goalie was outstanding we took some hard shots at him he made the series," said Hammond Coach Kevin Toland.

"I was happy with the way we stepped up and played more aggressive in the second half. We had a lull and gave up a goal but we bounced back."

The Devils pulled even with in the fifth minute of the second half when Jewett set up a Cooper Bennett goal. Durham scored the first of his two goals in the game connecting for an unassisted tally one minute later.

The Bulldogs gained an equalizer with 10:23 remaining when Jordan Sawyer crashed the net and headed home a direct kick from Jarrid Dodd from just outside the penalty area.

"We are getting better and we played well today. We got the first goal for a second straight game," said Heuvelton Coach Bruce Durrant.

"The guys gave me all they had today."

Lukas McQueer stopped 10 shots in goal for Hammond.

Morristown 7 - Gouverneur 1: The Green Rockets scored five goals in the first half and recorded a third straight win starting a key week where MCS faces the top two teams in the NAC West with Harrisville at home on Wednesday and a trip to undefeated Lisbon on Friday.

Hector Mendez, Cael Woodcock, Tyler Tillich, Tristan Simmons and Wyatt Simmons scored in the first half where Cody Abar passed out two assists and Simmons also set up one goal.

Simmons figured in both second half goals setting up Mendez and then scoring from Tillich.

Kade Marshall and Abar combined on six saves in the shutout and Sullivan Rumble made three saves for Gouverneur.

Harrisville 4 - H-D 0: Nolan Parow scored a goal with two assists, Adam Szlamczynski and Jeremiah Johnson tallied goals and Jadon Sullivan had an assist after the Pirates took a 1-0 lead on an own goal. Nate Woodward and Nick Kobylanski combined for the shutout with seven saves while Andrew Mathews had 12 saves for H-D.

The windmill at Hammond Central School produced plenty of power in Monday's heavy wind during the varsity and modified soccer games with Heuvelton.
