Hammond Girls Close on Perfect West Season

Hammond continued its travel in the fast lane toward a perfect West Division season in Thursday's NAC Girls Soccer action with a 4-0 Senior Day win over Heuvelton. Honored before their final home regular season game were seniors Kylie Vaugh, Kelsey Bennett and Brooke Manning and all four figured in the scoring.

The Red Devils climbed to 9-0 in division play and Edwards-Knox took over second place with a 2-1 win over Lisbon. The other game of the day saw Harrisville outscored Hermon-DeKalb 3-2.

In the NAC East Madrid-Waddington tied Norwood-Norfolk 1-1 and Chateaugay shaded Tupper Lake 1-0 in a pair of double overtime games.

Hammond 4 - Heuvelton 0: The Lady Revils (9-0 West, 12-1) pulled away from the Bulldogs (4-7-0 West, 4-10-1) with three second half goals. Kelsey Bennet headed home a pass from Brooke Manning in the 10th minute for the only goal of the first half where the HCS defense and goaltender Emma LaFaver weathered waves heavy Hamnmond offensive pressure.

Avery Kenyon sparked the second half pull-away scoring an unanswered goal and setting up tallies by Bennett and Hailee Manning,

Alyvia Crosby stopped four shots for a shutout and LaFaver finished with 14 saves in the Hammond goal.

E-K 2 - Lisbon 1: The Cougars (6-4-1 West, 8-4-1) took over sole possession in the NAC West by overcoming an heroic 15-save performance by Lisbon keeper Abby Flack.

"Their goalie had an incredible game. She made some amazing saves," said E-K Coach Patty Taylor. "We played well."

The combination of Lucy Frary and Abby Hart produced both E-K goals. Frary opened the scoring off a pass from Hart at 29:06 of the first half and Hart scored off a through ball from Frary on the winning goal with 7:24 to play.

Lisbon (4-5-1 West, 6-5-1) pulled even in the fourth minute of the second half when Julia Rishe scored unassisted. Mikayla Meilleur (2) and Ali Matthews (5) combined on seven saves for E-K.

Harrisville 3 - H-D 2: The Pirates (3-5-1 West, 3-7-1) answered a fast start by the Demons (5-5-0 West, 6-8-0) who scored first on a goal by Makenna Smith.

Torie Moore tallied two goals and assisted on a goal Hannah LaPlatney playing her only second game after returning from major knee surgery in May. Hannah Gollinger scored the second goal for H-D which received 16 saves from Emery McQuade. Megan Kackinson made 12 saves for Harrisville in its Senior Day win.

M-W 1 - N-N 1: N-N's Planty scored from Belmont in the 26th minute and Cassidy Hargrave answered with an unassisted goal as the Jackets (3-7-2 East, 3-8-1) earned a tie with the Flyers (4-5-2 NAC). Emma Martin stopped five shots for M-W and the NN keeper finished with 11 stops.

The other NAC East game saw Chateaugay nip Tupper Lake in double overtime to take over the division lead at 9-1-2.





Hammond's four seniors Kylie Vaugh, Kelsey Bennett and Brooke Manning and their parents and family members were honored before Thursday's game.

The Hammond Red Devils honored two of their fans in Tom and Betty Chapman. Tom Chapman is a retired Athletic Director at Hammond Central where she coached several sports for decades.,
