Updated: Feb 18

MALONE - Rounding out the regular season on a 19-game winning streak, Hammond criss crossed the width of Section 10 to gain a 51-45 nonleague win over Malone on Saturday morning. The NAC West Champion Red Devils gained a sweep of a series of the Huskies of the Central Division led by 19 points from Avery Kenyon and 11 from Kelsey Bennett who buried three 3-pointers.

Kylie Vaugh tallied eight points and Alyvia Crosby and Sadie Spabary each added two for the 19-1 Red Devils who will now enter the Section 10 Tournament as the top Class D seed and draw a bye into Sunday's quarter-finals.

Showning no effects of the long bus rideThe Devils jumped out to a 21-13 first quarter lead and built a 33-21 halftime advantage. Kenyon scored eight points in the first quarter and Bennett buried two threes.

McKenzie Lane scored 17 points for Malone (10-4), Madison Ansari scored 13 and Leah Gallagher netted eight. Caitlynn Douglas and Ryleigh McCauley rounded out the scoring with four points and one point.

"We need to rebound better. And work the clock better in situations," said Coach Shawn Dack looking ahead to the postseason.
