Hammond Celebrates Special Soccer Season
HAMMOND - Hammond Central School held its 2019 Soccer Awards banquet on Friday honoring the school district's varsity and modified soccer teams for athletic and academic achievements and for showing character on and off the field.
The evening was highlighted by recognizing the accolades of the Varsity Girls Soccer team, c oached by Shawn Dack, Alyssa Crosby and Chet Truskowski for reaching the New York State Final Four.
Hammond finished with a 19-2 record and were D-West champions, Section 10 Class D Champions, Regional champions and a New York Final 4 semi-finalist.
"The girls played the game right from start to finish. Never wavered. Stood together. And played with Heart, Class and Character," said Coach Dack.
"It took an exchange student from Sweden to stop them on the Avoca team. But through all that we still had great opportunities to score."

The Lady Devils dedicated their season to retired Coach and Athletic Tom Chapman and his wife Betty Chapman for their unified fight for Coach Chapman to live a full life while fighting cancer.
Hammond had the NAC West Offensive MVP in Avery Kenyon who also made the First Team of the Watertown DailyTimes All North selections. Kelsey Bennett was honored as the NAC MVP, a First Team WDT All-North selection and First Team All-NAC West selection.
Noah Pease was honored as the NAC West Defensive MVP and made the Second Team of the WDT All-North selections. Zoey Cunningham was also First Team All-NAC West selection and Hailey Cunningham and Hailee Manning were All-NAC West Second Team selections.
Kylie Vaugh earned an NAC Athlete of Distinction Award for seniors maintaining a 90 and above average throughout here high school athletic career and Alyvia Crlosby received the team's NAC Sportsmanship Award.
As a team the Lady Devils qualified for a New York State Scholar-Athlete Team Award.
"A great many accolades for this group. And well deserving. All great deserving kids," said Coach Dack.
The Hammond Central Varsity Boys Soccer team was honored by Coach Kevin Toland for their work ethic. Dedication. Team work throughout the season. Nate Jewett earned First Team All-NAC West selection, Randy Durham and Lukas McQueer made the Second Team and Luke Lundy received the NAC Sportsmanship Award and was honored as an NAC Senior Athlete of Distinction for maintaining a 90 or above average throughout his high school athletic career.
Members of the team are: Kennon Gardner, Nathan Jewett, Luke Lundy, Randy Durham, Lukas McQueer, Logan Tate, Brandon LaRock, Logan Jones, Mathew Hodgdon and managers Landon Howie and Hunter Peretta.
The Hammond Modified Boys Soccer was honored by Coach Alyssa Crosby and Assistant Coach Kevin Toland for their hard work, dedication and character throughout the season. Members of the team are: Thomas Studinski, Ryot Kern, Connor Pease, Dominic Peretta, Triton Rose, Spencer Dishaw, Terrin Rosenbarker, Nolan Martin, Zane Washburn, Sam Pease, Ethan Niles and Kameron Toland.
Coach Deanna Romanowski thoroughly enjoyed working with the Modified Girls Soccer team calling them "a group of amazing girls who always came to work hard, demonstrated team work and a never quit attitude on the field. Amazing group of girls.
