Harrisville Girls Win Opening Lewis County Hoop Game
Harrisville Central School won a tip-off game of the area's high school basketball season downing Beaver River 48-27 in a Lewis County girls basket game. The Harrisville boys will play Beaver River tonight.
The Pirates' lone senior, Torie Moore, sparked a fast start by Harrisville scoring 10 of her 24 points in the first quarter and buried two threes in the third quarter. Sophomore Evelyn Winters followed with 14 points, Violet Atkinson tallied 13 and Isabel Miller netted nine. Maegan Kackison added seven points and Logan Smith tallied a three-pointer .
"We did pretty well with the three point shot and for the most part we held them to one shot. Our rebounding was good. We are happy to get a win but still have a lot of improvement ahead of us. We are happy we get to play," said Harrisville Coach Steve Roberts.
Brynn Rice tallied eight points for Beaver River and Brianna Mast led the way with nine.
The Harrisville JVs won 36-22 with a young JV squad mostly 7th and 8th graders which produced a balanced effort. Violet Atkinson had 13 points and Isabel Miller had 9 and Nevaeh LaPlatney provided a strong rebounding effort.
Copenhagen 81 - South Lewis 9: In one other varsity game highly regarded Copenhagen downed South Lewis 81-9 led by Brook Smyka who birdied three 32 pointers in a 32 point effort. Marlaina Warcus scored four points for South Lewis.
