Heuvelton Gains From Split; M-W Downs SLC
Heuvelton Central Baseball Coach Dave Steele considered the split of an doubleheader with Class B opponent Potsdam as valuable preparation for the upcoming Section 10 Class D Baseball Tournament while Madrid-Waddington won a possible Class D matchup with St. Lawrence Central in Tuesday's action.
Heuvelton (8-3) won the opening game with Potsdam 9-4 and the Stoners (6-11) took the second game 10-2. Madrid-Waddington (6-5) continued to show offensive production in a 19-12 over SLC (3-8) which gave the Jackets a 4-0 record in interdivision games.
In one NAC West game Edwards-Knox (4-4) shaded Morristown (1-5) 12-11.
HEUVELTON SPLITS ON SENIOR DAY
"We only have one game this week, on Friday when we play Morristown in our final division game, so playing a doubleheader today was a big plus. These guys lost a great deal when last season was cancelled. We try to create game conditions in practice but it is difficult," said Heuvelton Coach Dave Steele who honored eight seniors in Matt Basford, Jordan Sawyer, Josh Wrobel, Jacob Martin, Austin Kingsley, Hayden Knauf, Rodger Premo and Braedan Free before the second game.
"We got our seniors lots of playing time today but we also got some young guys valuable time to help get them ready for next year. Things worked out well today and it was nice to win the first game."
Adam Calton pitched the first game win, backed by solid defensive play, and singled three times with two RBIs. Jacob Martin singled in a pair of runs. Lucas Thornhill and Nate Mashaw stroked RBI singles and Jordan Sawyer and Brandon Pray also singled.
Mike Vadas singled twice for Potsdam and Trevor Bates, Jake Glover, Will Roda (RBI), Greyden Griffith, Adam Dimarco and Luke Brosell (RBI) .
In the second game Potsdam's first four batters scored all the runs and the Stoners scored eight runs in the first two innings. Will Roda pitched a four-hitter the victory and singled twice in a winning offense which was led by three singles by Trevor Bates and a single and three runs scored by Jake Glover.
Greyden Griffin, Jackson Canedy, Mike Vadas and Luke Brosell all singled.
Matt Basford, Brandon Pray, Jed Crayford and Rodger Premo singled for Heuvelton.
M-W RAISES CLASS C STATUS
M-W collected 18 hits and rallying past a 10-2 St. Lawrence Central lead to improve its status in the Class C ranks. Colby Beldock provided an outstanding relief stint allowing just earned runs in 4 2/3 innings where he struck out eight and walked only two. Beldock also delivered a grand slam homerun in the winning offense led by Brody VanBuren who stroked four hits and drove in three runs.
Matt Robinson drilled a double and two singles and drove in two runs, Kaiden Kingston tripled and singled with three RBIS, Ethan Bailey singled and doubled and Ben Averill (2 RBIs) and Logan Cordova each singled twice. Nick Beldock scored four runs.
John Snyder and Hayden Perkins both singled three timjes and Wade Smith and John Svarezkofp singled twice. Josh Lyon, Zach Chapman and Ephram Brill all added one hit.
E-K RALLIES PAST 10-4 DEFICIT VS MCS
Edwards-Knox rallied past a 10-4 Morristown lead in the last two innings. Seniors Cade Huckle knocked in the tying run, while fellow senior Kolby Barbarito followed with a game-winning walk-off single. For E-K, Mason White lined three hits, Andrew Franklin delivered three hits and Jared Lottie and Barbarito hit safely twice. For Morristown, Cooper Bennett scored four runs after stroking two singles. Tristin Simmons rapped a double and a triple, Ethan Graveline singled and doubled and Addison Colby tripled and singled.
P-H SHADES TUPPER LAKE
In an NAC East game Parishville-Hopkinton downed Tupper Lake 11-9 as Jon Snell, Kade Hayes and Conor Taillon all singled twice for the Panthers (3-7, 3-6). Owen Gonyea and Grant Godin both singled twice for Tupper Lake (5-6, 5-5).
