Huaitt, Vitale Earn Potsdam Lacrosse Awards
POTSDAM, N.Y.-Senior captains Josh Huiatt (Lisbon, N.Y./Hugh C. Williams) and Luke Vitale (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield) are the SUNY Potsdam men's lacrosse team award winners for 2020. Huiatt is the team's Most Valuable Player and Vitale earns the Coaches Award. Huiatt, a two-time first team All-SUNYAC midfielder, was on a tear when the season was cut short just five games in. He was leading the Bears and the SUNYAC with 21 goals and five assists for 26 points. Huiatt also collected 23 ground balls and caused six turnovers. With 122 points on 75 goals and 47 assists, he was just 11 points from moving into Potsdam's top-10 all-time scorers. He also has 170 ground balls and 37 caused turnovers in 46 career games. Vitale was on pace for a career year with a with a faceoff winning percentage of .547. His 64 victories were leading the SUNYAC. In just over three seasons, Vitale won 265 faceoffs for a .500 winning percentage, including a career-high 131 last year. After a season-opening loss to No. 17 St. Lawrence, the men's lacrosse team rattled off four straight wins over SUNY Poly, Utica, Castleton and Marian and had a chance for several more when the season was called. The Bears look to be even stronger in 2021 when they open next spring at home against the Saints on Feb. 27.
