Jones Parent/Player Duo Ties For First At World Junior Golf
MIAMI, FLA. - Canton's Ryan Jones enjoyed a strong finish at the Optimist International World Junior Golf Championship.
On Friday, the Canton Central eighth grader who earned All-Northern Conference honors as seventh grader, shot his best round of the tournament at 83. He finished with a 87-84-83-254 to place 47st in the field which was cut from 103 to 77 golfers after two rounds.
On Sunday Jones and his father Aaron Jones combined on a round of 70 to tie for first place in the Parent/Child Tournament at the Trump International Resort in Miami, FLA. A scoreback on the scorecard decided the tie and Gage and Jason Messinghawn prevailed.
Aaron Jones is the Golf and Boys Basketball Coach at Madrid-Waddington Central School.
On Tuesday Ryan Jones began play 14-Under Division of the New York State Golf Association Championships at the Seven Oakes Golf Course at Colgate University representing the SLU Oliver Appleton Gof and Country Club. Jones shot an 87 while Chad Fisher of East Aurora crafted a 70 to lead the division.
Last season Jones won the 12-Under state title.
