Lady Bulldogs Enjoy Return To Softball Diamond
After navigating the pandemic and meeting all the mandated criteria the Bulldog softball team from Heuvelton finally got to enjoy some softball over the weekend.
In Heuvelton people are always willing to stand up and volunteer there time for the kids. And this summer was no different. Former standout Bulldog softball pitcher/catcher combo Emily Streeter and Kelsey Williams jumped at the opportunity to coach 12 players committed to play after just four4 practices together.
Members of the team are: Megan Woodard, Rayna Cameron, Molly Williams, Amber Cunningham, Emma Showers, Allison Trathen, Lily Spooner, Lakan Martin, Rylin McAllister, Carly Simmons, Chasity Johnson and Katie Cunningham.
The team played three games at Dexter and went 2-1 against good competition.
Bulldogs 6 Bombers 5
Megan Woodard led the offense rapping two doubles, two rbis and also scored a run. Rayna Cameron also laced a double with two RBIs and scored a run. Other offensive contributions came from Carly Simmons (single, RBI), Allison Trathen (2 singles, run scored), Lakan Martin ( single, run scored) and Chasity Johnson (single).
Allison Trathen (3ks) and Emma Showers(2ks) combined to pitch the win for the Bulldogs.
Thunder 14 Bulldogs 3
Molly Williams paced the offense with 2 doubles, single and 2 RBIs. Other offensive contributions came from Megan Woodard ( 2 singles) Rayna Cameron ( 2 singles, rbi) and Lily Spooner (single).
Cameron, Katie Cunningham, Williams and Woodard teamed up for a beautiful 8-4-6-2 relay to deny a Thunder hitter of inside park home run. Lakan Martin and Woodard supplied nice defensive games behind the plate.
Chasity Johnson and Allison Trathen pitched well against one of the best travel teams in the state.
"The Thunder program success is well known and we hung with them for four innings. We have nothing to hang our heads about," said a team spokesperson
Bulldogs 6 Bandits 4
Molly Williams lined two singles, drove in two runs and also scored two runs. Rayna Cameron singled twice and drove in a run. Megan Woodard (2 singles) and Lily Spooner ( bunt single, rbi) had solid games handling the catching duties and at the plate.
Allison Trathen played well at shortstop highlighted by a nice backhand play on the outfield grass and throw to get the runner at first by a step. Defensivewly Rylin McAllister really played a nice game at secondbase.
Emma Showers (1 inning) and Chasity Johnson ( 4 innings 5ks) combined to pitch the win.
