Lady Devils Open With Win Over Massena


The intensity of the OFA vs Massena rivalry in all sports added to quality of Friday's victory for the Lady Devils Girls Basketball team at home on Friday.

OFA (2-0) methodically crafted its margin of victory gaining a 46-32 NAC Central Division founded on strong defense and active rebounding.

"I was very pleased with our defense and our offense was much better in the second half," said OFA Coach Doug Loffler.

"Beating Massena is always a big deal at OFA and this was a very good win. We got shots through good ball movement and we converted better inside in the second half. Now we go to St. Lawrence Central for another tough games. Our division is so tough."

St. Lawrence Central downed Potsdam 40-31 on Friday. The Devils used the committee system in scoring, rebounding and defense led by Gabrielle Morley with 14 points, seven rebounds and three steals and Emily Farrand with 11 points and four steals.

Riley Hough followed with eight points, three rebounds and four assists and Abby Raven added four points. Hailey Reed grabbed six rebounds and scored four points, Celia Henry buried a three-pointer with three assists and Samara LaFlair added two points.

Laylah Bingham scored eight points in Massena's 10-player scoring parade which also included Hayleigh Armstrong (2), Shaylena Mandigo (2), Savannah Gauthier (1), Ayrssa Hopps (4), Nova LeGrow (6), Kailey Peets (4), Breanna Taraska (2), Tori Jacobs (1) and Tsiakoserio David (2).

Massena dominated the junior varsity game.

"Massena was an outstanding team and very balanced with scoring up and down the lineup," said OFA JV Coach Jon Cole.


In one NAC Central Boys Basketball game Salmon River downed Gouverneur 45-34.

Hawi Francis Cook tallied 23 points with 14 rebounds and Logan Lebehn tallied eight points with 17 rebounds to lead the Shamrocks. PJ. Ghostlaw passed out eight assists.

Connor Wood and Brock Cox led Gouverneur with 12 and nine points.

In another Boys Central Division game Malone downed Canton 59-47
