M-W, P-H Boys Match 3-0 Starts In NAC East

Madrid-Waddington and Parishville-Hopkinton put some distance between themselves and the rest of the of the NAC East Boys Soccer pack climbing to 3-0 with shutout victories on Friday.

M-W turned back a tenacious effort from 1-2 Colton-Pierrepont 2-0 and P-H controlled a St. Regis Falls team making it season opener 7-0. St. Lawrence Central blanked Chateaugay 3-0 in another East game and Gouverneur gained a 3-0 Central Division win over Potsdam.


As the two teams moved toward a potential midseason showdown on Oct. 27 Coach Ryan Robinson is pleased with the development of his M-W team which features a host of first year starters from a talented junior varsity team of a year ago.

Returning starters Matt Robinson and Brody VanBuren continued their emergence as the Yellowjackets go-to scorers Robinson netted an unassisted goal with 13:45 left in the first half when he hammered a shot from the 18 which bounded off C-P keeper and bounced into the net before a rotating Colt defender could clear the the ball.

In the 18th minute of the second half VanBuren converted a break-away off a through pass from Robinson .

"The guys are coming along and moving the ball well. They are doing the right things and right now we just have play a little stronger," said Coach Robinson after one of his first year starters, junior goalie Jacob Morgan came up with three high quality stops to post the six-save shutout.

In the first half he steered a shot just over the crossbar and blocked a rebound attempt after blocking a hard shot. In the half Morgan went high to deflect a well-placed direct kick and then covered a follow up attempt in a scramble near the top of the penalty area.

"Jacob Morgan made some key stops. Colton-Pierrepont played us tough," said Coach Robinson.

Goalie Harlee Besio and the C-P defense showed poise under pressure and the Colts, who featured three freshman performer, were credited for the consistency of their effort by Coach Bill Reed.

"I was very pleased with our overall effort today." said Coach Reed.


Peyton Snell and Avery Zenger both scored two goals to lead the Panthers past St. Regis Falls (0-1) in an East Division contest in Parishville.

Nick Snell, Matt Fisher and Cody Yette also scored for the Panthers (3-0). Caleb Knowles made one save for the Panthers.


Thomas Storrin made six saves to send the Larries past Chateaugay (0-3) in an East Division game in Brasher Falls.

Hayden Perkins, Charlie Dow and Gabriel Hornung scored goals for St. Lawrence Central (1-2).


Brock Cox made six saves to lead Gouverneur past the Sandstoners (0-1) in a Central Division game in Potsdam. It was the first win for the Wildcats (1-2) since 2018.

Garrett Leclair and Kyle Gaumes scored for the Wildcats. The other goal was an own goal.
