M-W, P-H Set Stage For NAC East Showdown Friday

It is always a big game when Madrid-Waddington meet in NAC East Boys Soccer/

Some are just bigger than others.

The Panthers will visit M-W on Friday (4 p.m.) in a contest which will go a long way to decide the NAC East title. M-W (8-2 East) will make a last stand in its title defense while P-H stands a 8-1-0. Both teams enjoyed strong finishing outings on Wednesday as M-W prevailed 7-0 on the turf at St. Lawrence Central and P-H shutout St. Regis Falls 8


"Friday is going to be a very tough game. It will be for all the marbles and Madrid-Waddington is a very tough team," said P-H Coach Costanza who led the Panthers to a one-goal win at home over M-W..

M-W 7 - SLC 0: Cade VanBuren scored twice off John McCall in the first seven minutes of the game. Kyle Stoner scored off a Matt Robinson assist with 14:29 left in the half and McCall buried a penalty shot with 39 seconds left.

In second half Joe Greene scored at the 22:58 mark from Cody Schweinberg, Schweinberg scored off a header assisted by Nick Burns and Jacob Murphy scored off a header with 14:50 left to close out the game.

Trent Lashua handled two saves in the shutout and Tommy Storrin stopped seven shots for SLC.

"Great game tonight for M-W we really had our offense come to life. I was real happy with how our offense executed today. We scored a lot of different ways with a lot of different players. Lucas Ryan had a great day on defense keeping everything in front of him today. Matthew Robinson continues to do a great job working with our veteran players and learning the mid field position," said M-W Coach Ryan Robinson.

"This was a great game to get ready for a playoff like game against Parishville-Hopkinton.. There is a lot on the line with this game and it will benefit both teams before playoffs. We are looking forward to it and should be another MW Vs Parishville-Hopkinton classic."

P-H 7 - N-N 1: Peyton Snell delivered three goals and two assists for the Panthers and Stewart Ayres, Tanner Rosenbacher and Harry Snell netted singletons.

"We off to a great start and we were able to give our reserves a lot of playing time in the second half," said P-H Coach Mike Costanza.

Caleb Snell finished with two saves allowing just an own goal.

In other NAC East action Brushton-Moira downed Colton-Pierrepont in double overtime and Chateaugay stayed alive in the division race at 7-3-1 with a 8-0 win over St. Regis Falls.

Lucas Ryan (19) has developed into an outstanding sweeper who anchors the M-W defense.
