M-W Boys Regroup To Down Galway

GLOVERSVILLE - Resiliency is an attribute that every basketball team wishes to own.

The Madrid-Waddington boys personified the word recording a 56-53 nonleague win over Section 2 opponent Galway on Sunday at Fulton-Montgomery Community College.

The 5-1 Yellow Jackets took a 14-3 first quarter lead but were stunned as Galway answered with a 24-6 second quarter run. M-W regrouped with an 18-16 advantage in the third quarter and gained the win with an 18-10 finish in the fourth quarter. "We played our worst quarter of the season. We didn't play good defense and our offense was stagnant," said M-W Coach Aaron Jones.

"But we bounced back. Cody Schweinberg was playing with an injury but he sparked us on offense with seven points and also gave us a lift defensively. Trent Lashua had a great second half. He finished with 12 points and rebounded very well."

Brennan Harmer scored a game-high 28 points for M-W which included four 3-pointers. Drew Harmer and Jacob Morgan each scored four points and Sage Cordwell added one. Carter and Carson Schribner scored 22 and 13 points for Galway.

M-W returns to NAC East play with a key home game against Chateaugay. The action starts with a JV game at 5 p.m.

Cody Schweinberg is shown here taking a jump shot for M-W in the John Dinneen Tournament against Heuvelton. On Sunday he provided a key offensive and defensive spark in a nonleague win over Galway at Fulton-Montgomery Community College.
