M-W, St. Lawrence Roll Into Class C Title Duel

Top seeded Madrid-Waddington and third seeded St. Lawrence Central rode flying starts into the Class C Championship of the Section 10 Girls Basketball Tournament on Friday.

NAC Champion M-W (18-3) jumped out to a 19-2 first quarter lead and downed division rival Brushton-Moira (5-14) 62-26 and St. Lawrence Central (10-11) of the NAC Central took a 19-8 lead over NAC East runner-up Norwood-Norfolk (13-8) 65-42.

The Lady Jackets and Larries will meet at 6 p.m. next Friday at SUNY Potsdam in the first game of a M-W Vs SLC doubleheader. The boys teams from the two schools will match up in the second game of the night.

M-W 62 - B-M 25: Alexis Sullivan and Emma Plumley combined to score 16 and 10 points as finishers and facilitators in an offensive effort which showed signature balance. Kelli Kingston scored eight points followed by seven from Grace Plumley and six from Jaelynn Uppstrom (2 3s) and Anna Brady. Natalie Pearson scored three points and Lacey Sullivan, Lydia Thomas and Laney Tiernan all added two.

Grace Plumley scored seven points in the first quarter and Alexis Sullivan tallied six in the second period.

Kyla Phelan led B-M with 13 points followed by Natalie Palmer (4), Emma Russell (4), Anna Martin (2), Kennedy Hebert (2), Alyssa Poirier (1`).

SLC 65 - N-N 42: Makenzie Moreau and Rylee Doaust each tallied five points with a 3-pointer in the first quarter and Marissa MacLean tallied seven points with a 3 in a 16-4 second quarter run by Larries. MacLean went on to score a game-high 19 points and Maggie Yandoh finished with 12.

Doaust finished with 10 points and Abby Lemieux and Makeena Moreau each came through with nine. Brooke Rubado and Brionna Foster followed with four and two points. Tiffany Fisher scored 11 second half points to lead N-N. KJ Belmore went 5-6 at the free throw line in an eight-point effort and Kylie Kellison scored nine points.

Other scoring came from: Stephanie Brock (3), Brianna Stratton (2) and Molly Gardner (2).
