Malone Denies Concerted Comeback By Lady Devils

MALONE - Giving up two goals in the first 90 seconds of the game was not a promising note to open the season on for the OFA Girls Soccer team which started NAC Central play in Malone on Friday.

But the Blue Devils made a quick recovery and only an outstanding defensive effort by the Huskies denied their charge for a comeback win in a 2-1 loss where OFA Coach Julie Hynes saw plenty to build on for Tuesday's home opener and Senior Game outing against Gouverneur.

Brooke Pritchard scored 30 seconds into the game for the Huskies and Rylea McCauley connected one minute later. Both goals were unassisted.

"Malone came out fast and strong, scored a goal 30 seconds into game and then again one minute later. We didn't have any legs, it is a long trip, but we came back strong after regaining our composure," said Coach Hynes.

"Lots of injuries and with just two subs, Doug (fellow coach Doug Loffler) and I are very pleased with the way our team came back and played today. It was an evenly matched game. We need the girls healthy and we will improve each game. Katherine Smith, Emma Lalone and Paige LaRock and Jillian Lebel held up well against Malone's speed and skill. They have some very fast players."

The Devils eventually outshot the Huskies 13-12 but the Huskies defense and hyper athletic goalie Madison Ansari, who made 12 saves, stood firm to secure the win.

Brinley Frederick finished off pretty triangle passing sequence from Emily Farrand and Sadie O'Neil with 18 minutes to play to tally the lone OFA goal. In her first varsity game Emma Chapman turned in a solid 10-save effort for OFA.

"Our girls really have improved their passing game and listening to their coaches. Gabby Morley and Emily Farrand are coming from different fall sports and have played solid for just learning the game. Emma Chapman was in net with a solid 10 saves. We are just finding where to put each player in what position," said Coach Hynes.

"Brinley Frederick had a beautiful second half goal from a nice neat triangle pass from Emily Farrand to Sadie O'Neil.
