Massena Edges Lisbon In 18U Youth Baseball

LISBON - The potential for a high quality youth baseball duel materialized on Tuesday as the North Country Bombers of Massena turned back host Lisbon Town Recreation 3-1 in North Country 18U action.

Four Bombers' hurlers Ethan Finstein, Zach Goolden, Ansen Weegar and Garrett Engstrom combined on a 13 strikeout four-hitter and used errorless defense to limit Lisbon to a single run in the sixth inning. The Bombers scored three runs in the first three innings against Lisbon starter Griffin Walker. Walker checked the Bombers in the fourth inning, Issac LaRock pitched two scoreless innings of relief and Hayden McBath pitched a scoreless seventh inning.

The Lisbon defense came through with clutch stops against the Bombers' 11-hit offense led by two hits, all singles, by Will Roda, Zach Monacelli and Firnstein.

"This was a really good game and a very good game for us. Like us, Massena was looking forward to a very good high school baseball season. We were both looking to make run in the states," said Lisbon Coach Dave Gravlin.

"They have a very good pitching staff but we had some good threats. We loaded the bases early in the game but didn't score. Hayden McBath pitched a very strong seventh inning. It has been great to see him come back to baseball and do well."

Brennan Snyder, Nate Eastwood, Chris Kucipak, Noah Dominy and Mason Phillips also singled for Massena.

Jayden Williams singled and doubled for Lisbon and Tyler Gravlin and Storm Walker singled.

Lisbon's 15U team will host Malone tonight.
