Mayette, Santana Honored As Roos Of Week

CANTON - Jake Mayette, a junior on the men’s hockey team from Madrid, and Danny Santana, a junior on the men’s basketball team, have been named this week’s Roos of the Week.

Mayette had a hand in three of the Roos four goals in a 6-4 loss to Morrisville State on Saturday. The junior had the primary assist on Canton’s first score just 25 seconds into the game. He then had another primary helper with 24 seconds left in the second period to get the Roos within 4-3. Mayette scored his fourth goal of the season with 1:53 remaining to get the hosts within 5-4.

Santana averaged 14.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game as the Roos split a weekend series with previously conference unbeaten Maine Farmington (18-4, 10-1 NAC). The junior tied a game-high with 18 points and added a team-high nine rebounds shooting 8-for-16 from the field as SUNY Canton snapped the Beavers 13-game winning streak with a 72-62 win on Friday. Santana posted 14 points and shot 60 percent in the second half in Friday’s win. The junior followed that up with 10 points, four rebounds and two steals hitting two of his five three-pointers as the Roos led with less than nine minutes left of Saturday’s 72-61 loss to the Beavers.
