McCormick Earns All-Region Pick; RW Plays AI
WINONA LAKE, Ind. - The National Christian College Athletic Association released its All-Region Teams for its Division I category this morning. The awards named ten individual players from four schools in the Midwest Region: Cedarville University, Concordia University, Roberts Wesleyan College, and Grace College. Redhawk players Dimitra Gkizani and Paige McCormick received the recognition.
Multiple players from the four regional schools made the All-Region Team. Head Coach Kari Hoffman of Cedarville University was named Coach of the Year and her player Ashlynn Huffman was named the Region Player of the Year.
Junior Center Dimitra Gkizani has had a dominant year as one of the tallest players in the East Coast Conference. Gkizani averaged 12.4 points and 7.7 rebounds per game while being named to the ECC's First Team All-Conference. The Athens, Greece native shot an impressive 52.9% (72-for-136) from the field and recorded 16 blocks, 15 steals, and 9 assists on the season.
Senior Forward Paige McCormick transferred to Roberts this past year from UMass and immediately made a difference. The Heuvelton, N.Y. native and former NYS Class D Player of the Year averaged 13.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game. McCormick shot 38.7% (75-for-194) from the field, 37.1% (26-for-70) from behind the arc, and 88.9% (16-for-18) from the free throw line. She was named to the ECC's First Team All-Conference as well.
Gkizani and McCormick were key players in the first ECC Championship won by women's basketball at Roberts. They return to the court Friday night in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to face off against American International at Daemen College in Amherst, N.Y. Tip-off time is TBA.
