McCormick Earns Honors Leading Red Hawks' Late Surge

Elevating her high efficiency production in the home stretch of her college basketball career Heuvelton's Paige McCormick has led Roberts Wesleyan to five straight wins and the clinching of second place for the East Coast Conference Tournament at 6-4. The 8-6 Lady Hawks will start Tournament action on Thursday with a home game against St. Thomas Aquinas (5-8, 5-5) in the rubber game of a 1-1 season series.

On Monday McCormick was named as the East Coast Conference Player of the Week after averaging 19.7 points, 7,0 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game throughout the week. The wins over D'Youville and Molloy College continued the Redhawks' winning streak to five games in a row. McCormick shot 51.1% (23-for-45) from the floor and 62.5% (10-for-16) from behind the arc.
The senior was crucial down the stretch in the win over D'Youville, hitting a three to put the Redhawks ahead for good with a few minutes left in the game. McCormick netted a season-high 22 points on her Senior Day in the overtime victory over Molloy College as well.
McCormick, who carries a 3.89 average as a Health Administration major, was honored on Senior Night and was also recognized as the Roberts Wesleyan Female Scholar-Athlete for the month of February. Paige plays shooting guard along aside her sister, sophomore point guard Madison McCormick in the Red Hawks' starting lineup. The girls parents, Charlie and Kari Thompson McCormick, made the trip to Rochester for the Senior Game which they watched on a labtop in the parking lot of the arena and then celebrated with their daughters after the game.
Both sisters played on Heuvelton Central's three straight New York State Class D Championship.
THREE GAME WIN STREAK FOR RED HAWKS
The overtime Senior Night game carried the Red Hawks into the postseason on a five-game win streak.
RW 62 - Molloy 53 OT: Freshman Danielle DiCintio buried a three with just three seconds left on the clock to force the game to overtime. Molloy was the first to score in the extra period, but a RW answered with an 11-2 run.
Paige McCormick finished her Senior night with a season-high 22 points hitting 5-6 3-pointers and adding 5 assists and 5 rebounds. DiCintio, Madison McCormick (5 assists), and Dimitra Gkizani (9 rebounds) all contributed 10 points where Madison McCormick committed just one turnover.
RW 79 - Molloy 48: Paige McCormick scored 16 points on 7-12 shooting while grabbing six rebounds and dishing ougt seven assists. Danielle DiCinto scored 13 points and Madison McCormick went 2-3 from three-point range scoring six points to go along with two assists and five steals and just one turnover.
RW 68 - D'Youville 53: Paige McCormick supplied 3-6 three-point shooting in scoring 21 points with 10 rebounds and three assists. Taryn Wilson tallied 10 points and Madison McCormick contributed seven points, four rebounds and two assists.
RW 86 - D'Youville 63: Paige McCormick went 3-5 from 3-point range scoring 11 points with eight rebounds, six assists and just one turnover. Taryn Wilson scored 10 points and Madison McCormick finished with seven points, four rebounds and two assists.
RW 95 - D'Youville 78: Paige McCormick netted 19 points in the offensive shootout where she grabbed six rebounds, blocked two shots and committed only one turnover. Dimitra Gkizani delivered a 19-point, 12-rebound double-double and Georgie Haverlock dropped in 15 points.
Madison McCormick contributed seven points, three assists and two steals.
