McDonald Sets Scoring Record On Special Sr Night

CHATEAUGAY - Senior Night provided a perfect setting to honor two historic achievements for Chateaugay Central Boys Basketball on Wednesday.

Jonah McDonald scored 23 points leading the NAC Champion Bulldogs, who are the state's number one ranked Class D team, to a 77-41 win over Tupper Lake which capped a 20-0 regular season for Coach Mike Martin's team.

McDonald started his scoring with a free throw and field goal to surpass Canton's Declan Porter as the all-time career scoring leader for Section 10 Boys Basketball. McDonald's 23 point night elevated the record to 1929 and his three 3-pointers gave him 115 treys on the season.

"What a great senior night in Chateaugay. This was a great way to cap off a great regular season. We are so proud of these six seniors. Logan Secore, Carson Richards, Aiden Tam, JJ Johnston, Cameron Tracy and Jonah McDonald are great young men and have done everything we have ever asked of them," said Chateaugay Assistant Coach Jason LaPlante.

"This was a great team win tonight. Everyone played lots of minutes and contributed to this win. Very proud of this group for winning a tough East Division and finishing this regular season 20-0. Now we need to turn our attention to trying to make a nice postseason run. Having Jonah pass Declan Porter for the all time section scoring record on Senior Night is pretty cool. What an amazing accomplishment. He is a special player and special young man. He has certainly put the time in to earn it,".

It was also Girls Basketball Senior Night at Chateaugay and after honoring Anna Bleakley and Julianna Gordon the Lady Bulldogs finished league play at 10-4, and rose to 13-6 overall with a 49-11 win over Tupper Lake (0-13, 1-18).

Chateaugay 77 - Tupper Lake 41: Jonah McDonald (7 rebounds) scored 15 points in the second quarter sparking a 34-8 run for the Bulldogs who trailed 13-11 after one quarter. Freshman Walter Martin buried seven 3s scoring 21 points and scored 12 in the second quarter.

Jed McDonald tallied seven points, Cameron Tracy (5 rebounds) scored six and Silas Lewis added five. Adding three points were: Logan Secore, Carson Richards (8 rebounds), Aiden Tam, JJ Johnston and Chase Thomas (5 rebounds, 5 assists).
