MeSean Johnson Named OBGC Youth Of Year

MeSean Johnson an 18-year-old Senior at Ogdensburg Free Academy the son of Danielle

Denoncourt and grandson of Joe and Mary Ellen Denoncourt has been named the Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club Youth of the Year for 2020. MeSean will compete for the New York State Youth of the Year title with other Boys and Girls representatives from across the state in the Albany area in May of this year.

MeSean has been a fixture at the club starting when he was five years old never straying too far from the gym in his early club years. Competing in all the leagues and open gym activities it was quickly evident that MeSean could become an outstanding athlete. MeSean participated in all the club leagues, events, character development programs, field trips and just about anything that was going on at the club. Currently, he serves the club as a Jr. Staff Member and as a role model and mentor to younger


When speaking about his nomination and the club Me Sean said,” For me the club has been like a second home. A place where I can go and know I’m safe. No matter what, I always knew I could talk to any of the staff about anything. The club helped me stay away from trouble and bad influences and a place where I fell in love with sports.”

Besides the club, Me Sean carries a 93.5 average, is ranked 21 st in a class of 111, is a member of the National Honor Society, volunteered for a number of years at Biddy Basketball and Pop Warner Football, will become a member of the Business and Marketing Honor Society, has achieved Academic Banquet at OFA every year and was named a New York State Scholar Athlete. His athletic accomplishments include All-League and Honorable Mention All-State in football, two years first team

All-League in basketball and 7 th team All-State last year and was chosen the Joe Jukoski Award winner this year in basketball given to a Section X player for Sportsmanship, Leadership and Ability as was a key part in the Section X Championship for the OFA Basketball Team and being named Co-MVP of the league..

Me Sean also is an outstanding member of the OFA track team. Me Sean is currently

considering Clark University, Castleton St and Potsdam State to further his education and basketball career.

“We are certainly proud of Me Sean and his accomplishments; he has come so far since his early days here at the club. He is so skilled athletically but we are prouder of the person he has become, someone with great character who has a genuine concern for others. His club family is very excited about the “Great Future” he has in front of him and are confident he will be successful in the next phase of his life. He will be a great representative of the Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club at the New York State Youth of the Year competition,” stated Thomas Luckie, Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club Executive Director.
