Morristown Girls Show Desire To Progress

MORRISTOWN - In athletics progress starts with the right attitude.

Morristown Central Girls Soccer Coaches Chris Showers and Stan Piercey feel that the desire to improve in their team will be the starting point for the Rockets hopes to better last year's 5-9 record in the NAC West and advancement into the second round of the Section 10 Class D Tournament.

The Rockets feature only one senior and one junior but do have a great deal of returning varsity experience.

"We are a very young team with a good amount of varsity experience. But replacing last years senior class will be a challenge. That group brought a lot of energy and leadership every day. We are a work in progress. We have to show up everyday wanting to compete and get better," said Coach Showers.

"We have 10 kids returning from last years team. Anna Stout (senior) and Rylie Showers(junior) will look to lead the defense moving from their fullback positions to sweeper and stopper this year. Sophomore Emma Showers will look to follow up a solid freshman year at goalie."

Sophomore wing Carly Piercey and freshman first-year player v Laureel Vinch look play lead roles in the offense.

"We are looking to Carly Piercey to lead us offensively along with newcomer Laurell Vinch who has shown in a week that she works hard in the offseason to improve her game.

Others returning plauers are: Juniors Kassidy Sullivan (FB), HaileyWard (W), and Ellie Gagner (W). Returning Sophomores are: Kaley Dumage (MF), Emile O'Donnell (MF),

,Kylie O'Donnell (MF) and Mia Johnson (MF).

First year varsity players are: Kaitlyn Ladlee (FB, So), Madysan Gagnon (FB, So), Emily Gagnon (MF, Fr), Karissa Donnelly (MF, Fr), Victoria Terhune (MF, Fr) and Ava Johnson (MF, 8th).

"We are young but Coach Piercey (Stan) and myself are excited about the next few years," said Coach Showers.

Morristown will open a new season on Tuesday night at 8 p.m. facing the host Blue Devils in the first round of the OFA Girls Soccer Tournament. Lisbon and Heuvelton will meet in the other first round game at 6 p.m.

Carly Piercey carries the ball upfield in a preseason scrimmage against St. Regis Falls at Lisbon.
