Newark Wins Burkman Classic JV Title
CANTON - Enter Newark in the record book in junior varsity boys basketball, the Reds used a 18-11 fourth quarter to claim the title of the 2019 Burkman Classic against host Canton on Saturday.
Brayden Steve scored nine points and Addison Bump tallied six in the fourth quarter effort for the Reds. Steve finished with 19 points and earned MVP honors. Bump also was named All Tournament team and ended with six.
Zach Herd posted 10 followed by six from Jacob Side and Nicholas Hayes Jr, three from Gabriel Caraballo and Lucas Lyon and two from Daveon Wright.
All Tournament team selection Sam Roiger posted 15 points including two threes for the Canton which led 40-37 after three. James Bailey tallied 10 points while Daven Glenn-LaFaver collected four points and was solid on the boards earning All Tournament honors. Lane Rayburn posted eight points while Ryan Jones and Luke Wentworth both hit a three in a seven point effort.
In the consolation game, Madrid-Waddington earned a 52-45 win over Harrisville.
Logan Cordova generated 23 points earning All Tournament team honors for M-W. Caleb Froats finished with 13 followed by seven from Tanner Smith and five from Luke LePage.
Kelly Tucker scored 12 points for Harrisville while All Tournament team pick Tanner Sullivan added 11. Charles Fuller added eight.
