NNY Jr. Bassmasters Club Holds Drive-In Awards Night

The COVID-19 pandemic cancelled many sports seasons over the Spring and Summer but it couldn't keep the Northern New York Junior Bassmasters off area waters.

Meticulously following all of the state guidelines the club held three of four scheduled tournaments with one cancelled because of a strong rain storm.

The club fittingly completed the 2020 season by holding a drive-in awards ceremony at Hosmer's Marina on Sunday evening.

NNYJBC Co-Director Arlene Kiah presided over the ceremony with the help of parent volunteers and Club President Keighan Sias and James Gibson presented awards.

The NNY Jr. Bassmasters Club honored the top anglers in the High School and Junior Clubs in a tournament staged at Black Lake in memory of Chuck Roach, a tournament staged at Lisbon Beach in memory of Dick Gibson and a tournament out of Ogdensburg.

Lunker and Sportsmanship Awards were presented in memory of the late Al O'Marah who was driving force in starting the club.

The ceremony climaxed with the presentation of the Lunkers of the Year, Anglers of the Year, The Al O'Marah Leadership Awards, the Chuck Roach Hook, Line and Sinker Award, the Anglers Choice Award, the Richardson Gibson T.E.A.M Award and the 2020 COVID-19 Award presented by Howland Pump and Supply.

In the Junior Club The Allen J. O'Marah Lunker Award went to Liam Langstaff for a 4.70 pound bass and the Allen J. O'Marah Angler of the Year Award went Easton Losey for posting the most points in the tournaments .

In the High School Club the Allen J. O'Marah Angler of the Year Award was shared by Jacob Farley and Chase Jacobs for accumulating the most points during the tournament and James Wilson took the Allen J. O'Marah Lunker of the Year with a 3.89-pound bass.

Allen J. O'Marah Leadership Awards went to Scarlett Ritchie and Lawson Robla and the Dick Gibson T.E.A.M. Award went to Jack Morley and Blake Woods.

The Chuck Roach Hook, Line and Sinker Awards went to Shea Langstaff and Owen Kennedy. The Anglers' Choice Awards went to Cael McCarthy and the 2020 Covid-19 Award in memory of Freddie Badlam from Howland Pump and Supply went to Jordan Duprey and Hunter Spriggs. The money for the award was raised at the "The Freddie" Basketball Celebration at OFA.

Special Sportsmanship Awards went to: Parker Bogart, Claire Murphy, Mason Kiah, Finlay Langstaff, Easton Losey. Brody Lust and Andrew Kearns.


The NNYJBC opened its season with a tournament on Blake Lake dedicated to the memory of Chuck Roach.

In the High School Club competition Drew Piercey and Claire Murphy placed first at 10.55 pounds, Jacob and Jed Farley took second at 8.68 points and Matt Kinney and Tanner Ritchie placed third at 6.98 pounds.

Easton Losey and Liam Langstaff led the Junior Club competition at 3.57 pounds, followed by Kaleb and Mason Kiah at 3.40 pounds and Hunter Spriggs and James Wilson at 1.48 pounds.

Lunker Awards, donated by Hosmer's Marina, went to Jordan Wilson in the High School Division at 3.33 pounds and Liam Langstaff in the Junior Club at 3.57 pounds.

Sportsmanship Awards, sponsored by Hosmer's Marina, went to Jack Morley and Owen Kennedy.


In a tournament staged at Lisbon Beach, which honored the memory of Dick Gibson, Owen Ames led the Junior Club at 11.33 pounds followed by Easton Losey at 10.17 pounds and Jackson Fortin at 10.08 pounds.

Kaleb Kiah landed the Lunker Award with a 3.36 pound bass.

Chase Jacobs weighed in 15.86 pounds to lead the High School Club followed by Tay Jacobs at 12.97 pounds and Jordan Duprey at 8.73 pounds. James Wilson took the Lunker Award with a 3.89 pounds.

Sportsmanship Awards, sponsored by Hosmer's Marina, went to Blake Woods and Cooper Bennett.


The final tournament, staged out of Ogdensburg, saw Liam Langstaff catch a tournament-high 15.54 pounds with a 4.70-pound Lunker to lead the Junior Club followed by Kaleb Kiah at 11.13 pounds and Easton Losey at 6.30 pounds.

In the High School Division Chase Jacobs won a close three-way duel for tournament honors with 10.58 pounds. Jacob Farley came in with 10.50 pounds and Ty Jacobs was a strong third at 10.02 pounds.

Matt Kinney landed the Lunker of the day at 3.56 pounds and Sportsmanship Awards, sponsored by Hosmer's Marina went to Scarlett Ritchie and Griffin Walker.
