OBGC Gains First Franklin CYO Hoops Win Of Season

Going in Sunday's game at the Tom Luckie Sr. Court Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club Coach Andrew Dedekker felt good about his team's chances of securing its first Franklin County CYO Basketball League win of the season.

His team played up to his expectations downing Bangor 46-30 and holding the lead from start to finish.

"We had good practices this week and the team played well. The defense was good" said Dedekker after his first win as the OBGC Head Coach.

Then OBGC will return to action on Saturday with a game against 4-1 Marantha at St. Joseph's Academy in Malone.

Maranatha and St. John Bosco both notched wins Saturday in CYO action, as did Chateaugay, still undefeated.

OBGC 46 - Bangor 30

Nick Davidson scored six points in the first quarter sparking the Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club to a 12-7 lead which it expanded to 23-11 at the half.

Davidson went to score 12 points woking inside along with Mark Tomford who delivered a game-high 15 points with eight in the third quarter. Mikey Bice and Tyler George scored five points as the team's primary ballhandlers and Scott O'Shier added another five points. Kassidy Johnson and Bryce Redmond each added two points.

Dryden Spinner tallied 12 points and Connor Smith produced nine to lead 1-4 Bangor followed by Scott McCray Jr. with six and Ricky Earle with three.

Maranatha 53, Citizen Advocates 32.

Braden Powell led the winners with 16 points and four rebounds before he left the game in the fourth quarter with an ankle injury. Israel Ryman had 13 points with four rebounds while Eddie Russell had a true Double-Double 11 points and 12 rebounds. Wesley Taylor just missed double figures with nine points including a big 3-pointer in the fourth quarter followed by Jeremy LaClair and Ryan Avery each with two points, while Blake Cook had two big steals.

Citizen Advocates was led by Dawson Scharf with 12 points followed by Alex Hanna and Brayden Dietz with eight points apiece. Blake Rivers rounded out the scoring with four points and four rebounds.

St John Bosco 63, Smitty's Construction 35

The winners were led by four players in double figures. Josh Bova led the attack with a 15, Logan Hohol had 14, Seth Gonia had 13, and Austin St. Denis had 12. Others scoring were Lynden Webb with six and Logan LaRocque with three.

Smitty's was led by Nate Martin with 15, followed by Brady Sweet with 10. Logan McMahon added six, while Kelson Preve and Lucas Saumier each added two.

Chateaugay 59, FBMM 31

The winners were led by Cody Woodard with 23 points followed by Carter Tower with 18, Brady Magoon and Matt Jarvis with 9 points each. Raven Winters hauled down three rebounds.

FBMM was led by Sage Sauve with seven points, followed by Zedynn Poirier with six and Garrett Osborn with five. Others scoring were Ethan LaVarre, Brayden Fefee, and Skylar Gravel with three each, while Jeb Shea and Conner Hanna each scored two.

Current Standings: Chateaugay 5-0, Maranatha and St John Bosco both 4-1,

Citizen Advocates 3-2, Bangor 1-4, FBMM 1-4, Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club 1-3. Smitty's Construction 0-4.

Next week's schedule: Varsity: 12:30 Maranatha vs Ogdensburg, 1:30 Bangor vs Citizen Advocates, 2:30 St John Bosco vs Chateaugay, 3:30 FBMM vs Smitty's.
