OBGC Rallies To Win Regular Season Finale

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

The Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club was facing a desperate situation on Sunday hosting Smitty's Construction in the final game of the Franklin CYO League Basketball season as they faced a 14-point deficit early in the third quarter.

Coaches Andrew DeDekker and Ryan Adams went to an all-out fullcourt and stormed back into a 39-39 tie when Scott Oshier lofted a hurried 3-pointers which swished through the net at the buzzer of third quarter. The frantic action continued throughout the fourth quarter as the OBGC posted a 62-45 victory.

Nick Davison and Tyler George combined for seven and six points in the fourth quarter and finished with 13 points apiece in the winning offense which was led by 21 points from Mikey Bice who scored 11 points in the third quarter. Markell Johnson and Scott Oshier followed with five points apiece, Conner O’Shea and Steven Javier each added two points and Bryce Redmond dropped in a free throw.

"Everyone played great defense in the second half. It was a good win." said Coach DeDekker.

Smitty’s was led by Brady Sweet with 18 points with four 3-pointers followed by Nate Martin with 14 points and Bradley Smith with 12. Logan McMahon added a free throw.

In other action over the weekend, Maranatha split a pair, while Citizens Advocate, Bangor, Ogdensburg, and St. John Bosco all picked up wins.

The league playoffs will be held on Saturday and Sunday at St. Joseph's Academy in Malone and schedule is listed below.

Citizens Advocate 64, Maranatha 61.

Dawson Scharf hit a three pointer with two seconds left to take the win in a well played fiercely contested game. Scharf ended up with a game high 35 points, eight rebounds, four steals and two assists. Alex Hanna added 17 points, Tyler Trombley had  five, Nick Bertrand four, Braedyn Dietz two, and Rieley Smythe had a singleton.

Maranatha was led by Brayden Powell with 28 points followed by Israel Ryman with 16. Others scoring were Ryan Avery, Eddie Russell, and Jeremy Leclair with four points each while Blake Cook scored two.

Bangor 68, Smitty's 38.

19 points and 12 rebounds and Caiden Lamay also with 19 points. Connor Smith added four and Brady Hyde added two to round out the scoring.

Smitty's was led by Brady Sweet with 14, followed by Nate Martin with 10 and Lucas Saumier with six. Kelson Preve added five, while JT Chambers and Jarrett Sweet each scored two and Logan McMahon added a free throw.

Maranatha 73, Chateaugay 62.

The winners were led by Brayden Powell who scored 10 of his game high 26 points in the 4th quarter while Israel Ryman added 15 and Ryan Avery added 12. Eddie Russell and Avante Pickett each scored eight and Jeremy Leclair scored four to round out the scoring.

Chateaugay, which won the regular season championship, was led by Cody Woodard with 31 points followed by Brady Magoon with 13 and Hunter Trombley with 10. Carter Tower had 8 to round out the Chateaugay scoring.

St. John Bosco 88, FBMM 51.

The winners were led by Logan Hohol with 16 points and 10 rebounds followed by Jeremy Lamitie with 15 points all on 3-pointers. Dalton Wilcox added 11, Darien Boyea had nine, Austen St Denis and Seth Gonia each had seven, Cooper Gavin had six, Josh Bova had five, and Austin Pierson and Linden Webb scored two points apiece.

FBMM was led byGarrett Osborn with 18 points followed by Ben Poupore with 15 points and Ethan LaVarre with 11. Others scoring were Brayden FeFee with three while Kolt Warner and Skylar Gravel each scored two points.

Final Standings: Chateaugay 12-2, Maranatha 11-3, St John Bosco 10-3, Citizens Advocate 10-4, Bangor 5-9, FBMM 4-10, Ogdensburg 2-11 and Smitty's 1-13
